FMP - Week 3 - Part 3

More detailing in Zbrush, ClayPolish is oficially my new best friend.

After working on the face and going through the rest of the body, naming my subtools and smoothing them all out, I went about adding details here and there.

Next up were her plaits and hair, along with her bangs, which arguably underwent the most changes out of everything in this section of my modelling and I think are yet to change more.

Using Orb Crack, some smoothing here and there and a well timed ClayPolish, I added all of the detailing to her hair and braids including the small metal bands holding the bottom of her plaits in place.

I do quite like how these came out, and I think it looks enough like Overwatch, I'm just very conscious about going too far with details and folds because the way Overwatch characters are sculpted they have very few organic details but lots and lots of mechanical ones.

Up next were the pieces of hair in front of her face, her fringe? Front hair bits? Bangs? Her bangs were a source of frustration for me because I knew they weren't going anywhere and that I liked the way that they looked, but now it was about making it look like they fit in Overwatch.

After lots of research and confusion, I realised that perhaps they were too big and that was throwing me off.

After shifting my attention from the female characters of Overwatch and instead looking at Hanzo of all heroes, I realised that Blizzard have done pieces of hair like this at the front, but they had to be smaller.

Its important to note that this is Hanzo's 'Causal' skin, a skin added in one of the Anniversary events ~2 years after launch but the front piece of hair he has is still very similar to his default skin, and I realised this was the vibe I was going for.

So after realising this, I shrunk her bangs down significantly, see:

I also added some creases in the hair to make it actually look hair and not like someone had stuck a capital 'M' on the top of her head.

After this I began adding the lines and detailing to her legs, the creases to her jacket and the fur on her collar. I still have a fair few things to tweak still, but it's most definitely getting there.

I'm not sure I'm happy with the creases on her sleeves, if they are supposed to look like 3/4 length sleeves that are slightly pushed up to the elbow, I feel that there would be more horizontal creases from the wrinkles made of her pushing her sleeves up. I think I need to do a little more research and revisit them.
