FMP - Week 1 - Part 2

After 3 months of concepting, the high poly sculpting of my Overwatch character finally began this week.

The first step towards doing a sculpt of an overwatch character is all about learning how exactly the artists at Blizzard made their own characters, so my first step was even more research.

Lucky, however, google and reddit were on my side and there is actually a lot of information out there about how the characters were sculpted and what their budgets were like.

User Agilethief from PolyCount created this rather handy analysis of some of the textures and modelling of a character from Overwatch, in this case D.va. There are also some rough counts of the low poly models for all of the overwatch characters to give me a ballpark for what their tri budget was from character to character.

After this it was onto some of the female characters from Overwatch to take some body shape and proportion references from in game to use as a base for my model.

I used the below screenshots of Widowmaker, Symmetra and Tracer as well as some sketchfab models to help me with some of the proportions for my own character.
