Finalising textures and screenshots of the fully textured model!
I've been trying to stay clear of adding nice finishing details like the blue lights on her skin and body before I have the core of the colour scheme and texturing done.
I've struggled quite a lot with this texturing process and it wasn't until close to the end of the last two weeks of work that things started to work in my favour.
Below is a screenshot in colour of where my model was when I was last posting on my blog. Though it was only a couple of days ago, I really feel like I've made a lot of progress and I'll break down what I did.
While I liked the direction it was going in there were some things that still weren't sitting well with me. First off, I didn't like the jacket at all and I couldn't figure out why, and secondly the collar was not the nice light fur colour that I had in my concept image. Lastly, it didn't feel like the character had enough detail and that the values overall just weren't working.
So with all of these in mind, I've been working hard over these past few days and I think that the character looks a lot better for it!
Here she is now:
I'm really quite happy with how she came out and these are the things that I changed between the last screenshot and this one:
- I lightened the shade of the jacket and turned it from a deep red to a more orange tone.
- Tweaked the gradient of her bodice to a lighter more visually appealing with the blue transitioning into a nice turqoise.
- Lightened the shade of the of her holster to match her legs more.
- Changed the tone of her collar to look more like sheep's fur like in the concept image.
- Added more detail to the metal armour on her chest around the blue pipes there.
- Balanced out the grey tones of her legs to create a more ineresting gradient with slight diferences in shades.
After all of this, I think the character works as a whole a lot better, so here are the final screenshots of her before I move on to rigging and posing her.
